Exercises to Prevent Back Pain
Back pain stands as one of the most common ailments of modern day humans. Caused by congenital effects like scoliosis, sports injuries, sitting at the computer, or heavy lifting, back pain can be a detriment to your overall functioning and quality of life. What's more, if not treated with the natural techniques of a chiropractor, back pain can become debilitating, taking you away from work, school, and the activities you enjoy. There are some exercises you can perform at home or under chiropractic care to reduce the pain in your back.
Performing stretching and strengthening back exercises for at least 15 minutes three days each week can prove to be effective at strengthening the back muscles, improving flexibility and range of motion, and reducing back pain.
Single Leg Pull
Lie on your back with one leg bent and extended and one leg flat on the floor/mat. Using the arm on the same side as the bent leg, pull it in towards your chest slowly. Keep your lower back pressed against the floor. Hold the position for 5 seconds. Repeat up to 5 times. Then, switch legs and repeat.
Cat and Camel
Get down on all fours with your neck parallel to the floor. Arch your back by contracting your abdominal and butt muscles. Let your head drop. Hold for 5 seconds. Keep your arms straight and let your back sag in towards the floor. Hold for 5 seconds, and perform entire exercise for 5 repetitions.
Side Stretch
Stand with both hands at your sides. Place one hand on your hip. Push the other hand up and over your head in the opposite direction, bending your upper body with it. Hold the position for 5 seconds. Return to the start. Place the other hand on your hip and repeat with the opposite side.
