If you keep hearing the term "superfruits," you may wonder what all the buzz is about. Why are some fruits more valuable to our health than others, and how do we benefit from taking products derived from these fruits? Here at Michaux Family Chiropractic we believe in the value of nutrient-rich food products, and nutritional in general, as a key part of the wellness services we offer our patients.
"Superfruit" is a rather vague term, but it generally applies to fruits that contain unusually large amounts of antioxidants. Antioxidants are substances known to aid cellular metabolism and regeneration. These properties seem to convey anti-aging effects, and antioxidants containing polyphenols also appear to reduce inflammation.
Foods that currently carry the "superfruit" moniker include many members of the berry family -- acai berries, wild blueberries, lychee berries, goji berries -- in addition to mangosteens, baobobs, pomegranates, pitayas and other rather exotic-sounding items. These fruits can be hard to track down in stores and to consume in the proper quantities for optimal health, so modern nutritional companies incorporate them into easy-to-take supplements and juice products.
We will prescribe any or all of these methods that support a patient's particular holistic health needs and challenges. This is why we proudly endorse the Exfuze line of whole-food extracts, which are all natural, sugar free, processed in a safe and healthy manner, and made by a proven manufacturer of quality wellness products. We can also advise you on which whole fruits you may want to add to your daily plate. Let us help you achieve super health!
