The holiday season can be hectic and stressful. There are presents to buy and wrap, big meals to cook and dozens of parties to juggle. To battle the stress that causes you trouble in the holiday season, take time for some of the following:
Holiday stress can take a toll. Muscle tension leads to back and neck pain. Highly demanding schedules can leave you feeling like you can't cope. Incorporating these stress busters can help take the pressure off.
Take time each day to exercise. A walk in the morning before going to work or a bit of time in the gym on your lunch break can be a big help. Exercise releases endorphins and helps battle cortisol, the stress hormone.
Feel free to cut out the holiday traditions that do not give you joy. Not a fan of Christmas cards? Friends will understand. Don't like holiday parades? Spend the afternoon playing board games with family instead.
Get outdoors for a bit. Even if you have to bundle up to keep warm, the beauty outdoors can relax you. Sit outside under a blanket with a loved one enjoying hot cocoa under the stars.
Get adequate sleep. Sometimes stress keeps you tossing and turning. Other times, holiday parties mean being out late then having to get up early. Work on your schedule so that you can get a full night's sleep as often as possible. When you are well-rested, you are more resilient and able to stand up to stressful situations.
Take care of your health. Even when you are busy, make room for your regular chiropractor appointments. Regular adjustments can help battle the pain that comes from tension in your neck and back.
