Pinched Nerve

Pinched Nerve

The pain of a pinched nerve can be extreme, even debilitating. Pain can occur in the back, neck, shoulder, arms or legs. At Michaux Family Chiropractic we offer a variety of all-natural treatments to not only help with pain management, but to address the cause of the problem.

A nerve is “pinched” when the muscles and other soft tissues around it become inflamed or when a bone presses against it. As the irritated tissues compress against the nerve, its normal electrical impulses are disrupted, causing discomfort. Pinched nerve symptoms may be constant or intermittent and include:

  • Sharp or burning sensation
  • Tingling
  • Numbness
  • Muscle weakness
  • Mild to severe pain

A number of conditions can cause a pinched nerve. Injury, poor posture, arthritis or stress from performing repetitive motions at work, through sports performance or with hobbies are the most common. With treatment, a nerve can recover from the compression and return to normal function. But delaying treatment can lead to permanent damage.

Chiropractic Care for Pinched Nerve Pain

It’s often suggested that pinched nerve pain should be treated with prescription pain medication and/or surgery. Chiropractic care is a safe, non-invasive, drug-free method that can relieve even chronic pain. Chiropractic care doesn’t just mask symptoms, it can eliminate the cause of the compression, allow the nerve to return to full function, and permanently alleviate pinched nerve pain.

Sciatica is one of the most common conditions associated with a pinched nerve. In fact, sciatica is not technically a condition, but is a symptom often caused by a herniated disc compressing on sensitive nerves along the spine. When these nerves are compressed, they can send painful sensations down through the lower back, buttocks and leg. Chiropractic care can eliminate sciatic pain naturally by correcting spinal alignment and relieving the inflammation causing nerve compression.

In addition to sciatica, whiplash pain and carpal tunnel syndrome are other nerve-related conditions our patients seek treatment for. A whiplash injury often includes subluxation, which can cause a pinched nerve to send painful sensations down into the shoulders, arms and hands. In carpal tunnel syndrome, swollen tendons and other tissues compress on the median nerve of the carpal tunnel, causing tingling, numbness and pain to radiate from the elbow into the fingers.

After a thorough examination to determine the cause of a pinched nerve, the chiropractors at our Clermont clinic will create a comprehensive treatment plan to begin relieving your pinched nerve pain immediately. Your treatment plan might include a variety of therapies such as:

  • Spinal adjustment
  • Cryotherapy
  • Moist heat therapy
  • Mechanical traction
  • Physical therapy
  • Gentle exercises to strengthen the affected area

Combining chiropractic techniques is a safe and effective way to eliminate the pressure on a pinched nerve and alleviate the pain associated with sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome and whiplash. Let us help you manage pinched nerve pain without the use of drugs or surgery.
