5 Tips to Alleviate Aches & Pain During Travel

Our Clermont Chiropractor Staff Has Some Helpful Tips for Ache-Free Travel

Whether you're taking a road trip out of the city for the weekend or hopping a plane to a new country, traveling can impose a variety of aches and pains on your body. To keep your back and joints feeling good, our Clermont chiropractor at Michaux Family Chiropractic is happy to share some effective simple tips.

5 Tips to Alleviate Aches & Pain During Travel

1. On an airplane, boat, or train: Stand up periodically (when safe to do so) to promote circulation and prevent joint and muscle stiffening. Always hold on to railings or seat backs while walking to avoid slips during turbulence.

2. In a car or bus: Move your legs frequently while seated. Perform simple exercises like heel raises and seated marches. Take advantage of any rest stop breaks to get up and walk around.

3. Drink lots of water: Staying hydrated can help reduce jet lag and will prevent your body from becoming stiff and achy.

4. Lift your bags with good body mechanics: When putting your bag into an overhead bin or trunk, bend your legs and avoid twisting your spine while holding the bag. Keep the bag as close to your body as possible, and ask for assistance if it's heavy.

5. Sit with good mechanics: Use a small pillow or folded jacket in your low back to maintain the normal curve of your spine. your knees should be a little higher than your hips, and you should be able to easily slip four fingers behind your knee on your lower thigh. If driving, tuck your chin (to avoid jutting your head forward) and move your hands from 7 and 3 to 10 and 5 intermittently to avoid shoulder and arm ache.
